Arnold B. Libby Jr.

SHIRLEY MILLS — Arnold B. Libby Jr., 47, passed away Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, from injuries sustained in a traffic accident.

Arnold was born in Lewiston, March 14, 1955, the son of Arnold Libby Sr. and Shirley (Hilliard) Libby.

He was raised in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth Academy.

Arnold lived and worked for many years in the Shirley Mills-Greenville area, self-employed in carpentry.

He was an outdoors person who grew up loving the outdoors and continued to have hobbies and work that kept him outside. He loved his children, motorcycle, snowmobiles and the Moosehead area.

He had many friends and family members, close and far. Everyone he met came away knowing they had encountered a truly nice person. He was very proud of his 17 years of sobriety.

He was predeceased by a sister, Penny Prestridge, in 1999, and a good friend, Sach Wing.

He is survived by his father, Arnold Libby Sr., of Richmond; his mother, Shirley Michaud of Winthrop; his stepmother, Bertha Libby of Lewiston; his sons and daughter, Chris Kenney of Litchfield, and Patrick Libby, Andrew Libby and Sara Libby, all of Shirley Mills; his stepdaughters, Debra Clements of West Gardiner and Michelle McDonald of Litchfield; three sisters, Pamela Smith and her husband, Randy, of Lacrosse, Wis., Sue Cook and her husband, Walter, of Manchester, and Bev Adams and her husband, Joe, of Readfield; and his sweetheart, Jane Gaudet of Monmouth. He is also survived by his grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Joseph Edward Arnold

MANCHESTER— Joseph Edward Arnold, 80, a lifelong resident of Manchester, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.

Joe was born March 3, 1922, in Manchester, the son of Charles W. and Jessie Belle (Trask) Arnold, where he grew up and attended Manchester schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and from 1942 to 1945 served in five major battles of the war in Europe, Normandy, northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe. He was a member of the 113th Field Artillery Battalion and earned the Good Conduct Medal, the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and qualified as a sharpshooter.

After the war, Joe married Claudia Quirion, and they shared nearly 56 years together. He worked at Togus as a mason until his retirement and then was self-employed as a mason. Joe also served the town of Manchester as a selectman. After his retirement, he was a daily visitor to the Flower Cart, where he was always ready and willing to help where needed and where his presence will be missed.

Joe was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His granddaughters and great-grandsons were the apples of his eye and he was theirs.

In his spare time, Joe enjoyed horse racing, football, watching the Red Sox and was an avid gardener. He took great pride in his gardens.

Joe was predeceased by four brothers, Charles, Clyde, Norman and Everett Arnold; two sisters, Dorothy Phillips and Mary Trask; and his son-in-law, Paul Gagnon.

He is survived by his wife, Claudia; two daughters, Arlene Gagnon of Manchester and Gail Arnold and her friend, David Popolizio, of Kennebunk; a sister, Janette Whitehouse of Augusta; two granddaughters, Angela Gagnon and her fiance, Steven Burroughs of Manchester, and Jessica Gagnon of Manchester; and two great-grandsons, Alex and Dylan Burroughs.

Relatives and friends may visit at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church Street, Augusta, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 29.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, at Manchester Community Church, with the Rev. Ernest Johnson officiating.

Burial will be at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.

Kenneth Arnold Cobb
2005

WINTHROP - Kenneth Arnold Cobb, 82, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at his winter home in Dover, Fla.

He was born in Lewiston on July 8, 1922, the son of Clarence J. and Gladys (Robinson) Cobb, formerly of Winthrop.

Kenneth graduated from Cony High School in 1940 and Kents Hill School in 1942, attended the University of Maine's Brunswick and Orono campuses and received a law degree from Boston University School of Law in 1951. After high school Kenneth served in the air force and the infantry for 31/2 years, with 21/2 years of that time served in Europe during World War II.

He was a member of East Winthrop Baptist Church for more than 50 years, serving as trustee as well as on the music committee. He was a life member of the Manchester Lions Club and a member of the Winthrop Rotary Club. He was a past master of Bethlehem Masonic Lodge, Augusta, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Kora Shrine Club. He also had been a Boy Scout and a Jaycee.

Over the years, Kenneth played the violin in several groups, including The Old Time Music Makers, The Over the Hill Gang, and The Silver Strings in Florida.

Kenneth was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a devoted husband and friend to many. He enjoyed spending time camping with family; being at Butterpoint in Waldoboro; playing the violin with his wife, Polly, and other musicians; boating and mackerel fishing at Waldoboro; spending time on the lake in Winthrop; and wintering in Florida.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Polly, of 53 years, "We'll Be Sweethearts in Heaven"; his children, Cynthia Savage Brann and husband Darrell, Sandra Johnston and fiance Wayne Lagasse, Eric Cobb and Cheryl Thompson, and Beth Cobb, all of Winthrop, and Julie Fletcher and husband Joe of Monmouth; 14 grandchildren, Elizabeth Brooke and husband Alan of Augusta, Christa and Ethan Savage of Chesterville, Kevin Savage of Winthrop, Christopher and Carrie Johnston of Winthrop, Jason Cobb and wife Desire of China, Melissa Cobb of Brunswick, Judson and Shelby Cobb of Winthrop, and Kyle, Haley, Audrey and Hayden Fletcher, all of Monmouth; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Kaleb Brooke of Augusta, and Leah Savage of Winthrop and Chesterville; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Page of North Carolina and Mary Lou Hatstat and husband Ralph of New Haven, Vt.; six nieces and a nephew in Vermont; along with many other special people in his life.

Private family visiting will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 28, at North Monmouth Church, followed by a celebration of Kenneth's life beginning at 2 p.m., with Pastor Ed Spencer officiating.
