Edith Marion Thompson

SIDNEY — Edith Marion Thompson, 58, of Sidney, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Mount Saint Joseph's Nursing Home, in Waterville.

She was born in Mount Vernon, Nov. 4, 1943, the daughter of Charles and Ardis (Clough) Whynot.

She married Wallace Thompson, Aug. 15, 1964. Together, Edith and Wallace were active in the Sidney Grange and later the Readfield Grange. They traveled all over the state to attend Grange meetings. She and Wallace also loved to go for long rides in the car, almost daily. Edith loved cats and had many until she moved to Mount Saint Joseph's in 1996.

Mrs. Thompson was predeceased by her mother, Ardis Whynot, in 1973; her father, Charles Whynot, in 1974; and her husband, Wallace Thompson, in 1993.

She is survived by her uncle, Clyde Clough, of Readfield; three aunts, and several cousins, including Dorothy Weeks, and her husband, Leon, of Farmingdale.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in the Reynolds Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Volunteers of Kennebec Valley, 150 Dresden Ave., Gardiner 04345 or Mount Saint Joseph's Activity Fund, 7 Highwood St., Waterville 04901.

Edith H. Barber

AUGUSTA — Edith H. Barber, 66, of Augusta, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at the MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Long Term Care at Gray Birch after a long battle with emphysema.

She was born in Westbrook, May 6, 1935, the daughter of Hugh T. and Adelaide E. (Wallace) Sawyer.

She was educated in Yarmouth schools and attended North Yarmouth Academy.

Mrs. Barber had worked as a certified nurses' aide at Alderson Convalescent Home, Woodward, Calif., and was also a private duty nurse. She worked four years at Coastal Manor, Yarmouth, and most recently for HealthReach Hospice and the Senior Companion program through the county extension.

She enjoyed dancing, fishing and beano.

She is survived by sons, Herbert H. Taylor, of Chelsea, Ellsworth N. Taylor, of Augusta, and Timothy M. Taylor, of Titusville, Fla.; one daughter, Olive D. Morrow, of West Sacramento, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Candina Morrow, Heather Morrow, Nicole Taylor, Wesley Taylor, Tiffeny Taylor, Timothy Taylor, Leigh-Ann Taylor and Amber Taylor; and several cousins.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Meeting House Hill Cemetery, Yarmouth.

Donations in her memory may be sent to the American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State St., Augusta 04330.

Edith M. (Wheelock) Marsters

FARMINGDALE — Edith M. (Wheelock) Marsters, 91, of Farmingdale, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, Sunday, July 28, 2002, after a long illness.

She was born in Wytopitlock, Feb. 18, 1911, the daughter of David C. and Mabel M. (Sherman) Wheelock.

In 1930, at age 19, she married Bernard Marsters of Milltown, New Brunswick. After 68 years of marriage, Bernard passed away Sept. 3, 1997. She worked alongside her husband for many years at the cotton mills in Milltown before moving to Hallowell in 1944. She also worked in the cotton mill in Augusta and the Hallowell Shoe Co., after which she became a full-time homemaker while her husband worked at Statler Pulp and Paper mill until his retirement in 1971.

She had no children of her own but raised her niece, Rita (Baker) Messerschmidt of Aston, Pa., and great-nephew Clifton Worthing of Pittston. She kept a house of her own until she moved in with her niece, Lena Parlin of Farmingdale.

She was a long-standing member of the First United Pentecostal Church of Augusta, where she donated many years of her time, contributions and baked goods to the Ladies' Auxiliary. She shared her life with all and held nothing back.

Edith is survived by her sister, Lenore Gallagher of Augusta; her brothers, Willis Wheelock of Augusta and Benjamin Wheelock of East Pittston; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends.

The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses from Family Medicine Institute and the staff at Home HealthReach Services, including hospice caregivers.

A very special thanks will ring through the ages for the care, love and understanding that was given to her freely from her niece, Lena Parlin, and her great-niece, Linda Parlin. Her great-nephews, Peter Parlin and Gene Parlin, also helped along the way.

There will be no funeral service after the cremation. Her ashes will reside with her niece, Rita Messerschmidt.
