Allan Charles Gurney Obituary (1951 - 2013)

PORTLAND- Allan Charles Gurney, 61, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Heritage Rehabilitation & Living Center, Winthrop, after a long illness. Allan was born in Canton on May 28, 1951, the son of the late Fred and Geraldine (Hodge) Gurney. He attended Winthrop High School before enlisting in the United States Army, where he served honorably in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge from the service, Allan found work in Ohio briefly before relocating to New York, where he worked and resided for many years. He later moved to Portland, where he spent most of his adult life, before recently moving to Heritage as a result of his rapidly declining health. Aside from his parents, Allan was predeceased by a brother, Alan Swasey, on Dec. 20, 2011. He is survived by his step father, Richard Swasey, of Wayne; a brother, Dan Hodge & his fianc, Gayle, of Rumford; and his three sisters, Paula Hacopiannik & her husband, Vahik, of Vista, CA, Karla Swasey of Winthrop and Debbie Buzzell & her husband, Craig, of Wayne. A celebration of Allan’s life will be held graveside at a later date at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
