Anne Blanche Whitman Obituary (1941 - 2014)

MANCHESTER--Anne Blanche Whitman, of Manchester, passed away at the Alfond Center for Health on February 28th, with her family by her side. She was born in 1941, the eldest daughter of George 'Dana' and Hildreth [Hanson] Blanche. Anne graduated from Hallowell High School and Farmington Teachers College. She taught elementary school in the Rumford and Augusta area schools before becoming school secretary at Farrington Elementary School. She was a member and past Master of the Manchester Grange as well a secretary and treasurer of the Manchester Community Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl R. Whitman, Jr., both of her parents, as well as two brothers, Robert Blanche and Fred Blanche. She is survived by her children Wayne and Kim Whitman, Allen Whitman and Ellen and Peter Mallow; her grandchildren Laura and Justin Lamport, Jacob Whitman, Samuel Whitman, Hannah Whitman, David Mallow and Ava Mallow; and great-grandchildren Lily and Quinn Lamport. As well, she is survived by her siblings Frances Duncan, Geraldine and Carl Douglas, Charlene Skene and Carlton and Kathy Blanche; a foster sister Carol Johnson and her husband Ted; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial celebration of life will be held at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Service, One Church Street, Augusta on Wednesday March 5, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. Following the burial, a reception will be held at the Manchester Lions Club, Clubhouse Road, Manchester.
