Cathy Newcom Kennison Obituary (1960 - 2014)

MANCHESTER ~ Cathy's dreams became reality for her when she won her battle against cancer and is now free. Cathy passed away peacefully in her sleep at home with her husband Peter, cat Allie, and new pup Freestone on Saturday, September 20, 2014. She accepted her illness with grace, tenderness, and caring, often reaching out to new cancer patients to help put them at ease. Her smiling determination throughout all of the ups and downs was admired by all she met. She was special. Cathy's immense inner strength and conviction to getting well is only overshadowed by her love of her family including Allie and Freestone. You see, Free was a recent rescue Labrador from Georgia that Cathy pushed to get so that Peter wouldn't be alone. Cathy never spoke a harsh word about anything or anyone but accepted everyone as they were. She never whimpered or complained in all the years of treatment and if you asked, she would reply 'It's the children with cancer, that's unfair.' This kept it in perspective for her, always putting other's first. She was loved by our families, co-workers, neighbors, Beta Sigma Phi sisters, nurses, doctors, and techs, everyone she met. She was special. It was a long battle that she intended to win, and she did. Her spirit is free and now soars within us. We really don't know what happens to us after we die. But if there is a happy place for kind hearted, warm, loving, gentle souls, Cathy will be there, big smiles, helping the new souls arriving, and comforting them in her special way. Smile with her and celebrate her spirit.
