Charlotte B. Eaton Obituary (1917 - 2015)

HALLOWELL ~ Charlotte B. Eaton,97, passed peacefully away in her sleep after spending the day visiting with many family members at Woodlands in Hallowell Jan 26, 2015. She was born in Augusta Maine Nov 12, 1917 to Grace B. and Carl Eldridge. Charlotte attended Hallowell High School and was proud to have earned her diploma April 2, 1969. After being a homemaker for 22 years, she went to work at the newly-opened kitchen at the Hallowell Elementary School in January 1957, after being widowed with 2 young daughters to raise. She became head cook after one year and retired in 1979. She was well-known for her excellent meals in the early days of the school lunch program. After retirement she lived the rest of her life in her beloved Grandmother’s Home in Farmingdale, where she had spent much of her childhood. She loved gardening and mowed her own lawn until she was 90. In her eighties, she ventured into the world of computers and enjoyed exploring the internet. One of her favorite activities was sitting in the sun on her porch swing, watching the birds. While she was a great cook and made the best homemade bread, she also sewed all her life, making everything from doll clothes to wedding gowns. She loved piecing log cabin quilts. A child of the Depression, she learned frugality at an early age and it stayed with her all her life. She led a quiet, simple life but was always prepared for anything! Her family was the most important part of her life! Charlotte was predeceased by her first husband Warren E. Blaisdell on Dec 25, 1956, a son Kenneth W. Blaisdell in January 1946, an infant son in 1936, her second husband Harry Eaton in 1980, her brother Harry T. “Bud” Eldridge; great-grandson, James Donovan, Jr. in 1994 and her parents. She was greatly loved and will be truly missed by her sister Phyllis Doyle of Gardiner; her daughters, Cynthia B. Black (Wilton) of Litchfield and Martha L. Butler (Martin) of West Gardiner. She leaves 6 grandchildren: Martha Donovan of Litchfield, Leah Butler Taylor (Bob) of Boothbay Harbor, Charlene Vannah of Vassalboro, Lisa B. Allen (Andy) of Farmingdale, Michael W. Knowles (Jennifer) of Casco, Maine and Lynda Butler Hulme (Graham)of West Bridgewater, MA. Great grandchildren are Jenifer Donovan of Tampa FL, Khaila Donovan of Monterey CA, Timothy Schriver (Laura) of Hollis, Me, Courtney Vannah of Vassalboro, Jake Allen and Leah Allen of Farmingdale, Ashley and Becca Taylor of Boothbay Harbor, and Chloe and Sophia Hulme of West Bridgewater, MA. There will be no visiting hours or funeral at this time. A graveside ceremony is planned for the spring. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta.
