Claire T. Snell Obituary (1929 - 2017)

Augusta ~ Claire T. Snell, 88, of Alton Road, died Sunday, November 19, 2017 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Long Term Care at Gray Birch surrounded by her family. She was born in Sanford on August 30, 1929, the daughter of Philip and Aldea (Poirier) Thibodeau. Claire attended Sanford area schools, and graduated from Sanford High School in 1948. She later graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in Portland in 1951. In 1952, she married Leland Snell, and together they had three children, Gerald, Linda and Gary. She was employed at the Togus Veterans Hospital as an RN for many years, retiring in 1977. In 1983, she moved to Bradenton, FL., where she lived for twenty years, before returning to Maine. While there, Claire made many special friends with whom she remained in contact. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafts and cooking. Her biggest enjoyment was spending time with her family and friends. Claire was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was predeceased by her parents, stepmother Alice, her infant son Gerald; a sister Jean Mathieu, a brother Raymond Thibodeau, and her son-in-law Wayne Hall. She is survived by a daughter Linda Hall of Hallowell; a son Gary Snell of Dresden; 3 grandchildren, Shannon Hall and her partner James DiCesare and their children Mia and Lucas; Jennifer Shanholtzer and her husband Josh and their son Jacob; and Matthew Snell and his wife Ashley. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Visiting will be held on Saturday, December 2 from 10-11am at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta, followed by a memorial service at 11:00.
