Cleveland Dexter Morrison Obituary (1910 - 2013)

WATERVILLE -- Cleveland Dexter Morrison, 102, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Lakewood Longterm Care in Waterville. He was born on Nov. 27, 1910, and raised in Merrill. Cleveland was the oldest of 10 children of Grover Cleveland and Edna (Therriault) Morrison. Known to most as Cleve, he graduated from Merrill High School, and after working for many years as a heavy equipment operator at Wyman and Simpson Inc., he founded and operated the C.D. Morrison Construction Co. from 1950 until his retirement in 1985. Cleve lived a private life and enjoyed his extended family and traveling, spending 20 winters in Honolulu, Hawaii. He resided in Hallowell prior to building a retirement home in Sidney, and spent the last decade at a retirement facility in Waterville. A 75-year member of the Masonic Order of Free Masons, his service included Master of the Blue Lodge, Master of the Chapter, Marching Flag Unit, Master of the Council culminating as a member of the Shrine. He was also a member of the Cox Memorial United Methodist Church in Hallowell. He was predeceased by his first wife, Irma Buzzell Morrison; his late wife, Patricia Wing Morrison; eight siblings and a grandson, Craig Cleveland Morrison. He is survived by his son, Capt. Dexter C. Morrison, USNR-R, and his wife, Juliet, of West Boothbay Harbor; his sister, Capt. Ona P. Morrison USA, of Portland; six grandchildren, Lisa M. Spiller and her husband, Michael, of Sandia Park, N.M., William Morrison and his wife, Linda, of Exeter, N.H., Amy Morrison, of Harvard, Mass., David Propert and his wife, Laura, of London, England, LCDR James B. Morrison, USN and his wife, Sarah, of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Kate Dayoub and her husband, Charles, of Vienna, Va. and nine great- grandchildren. He is also survived by the family of his second wife, Maura Smith, and her husband, Michael, of Hallowell, and Michael Wing and his wife, Susan Emmet, of West Gardiner, and their children and grandchildren. Burial will be in the spring at the family lot in Chadwick Hill Cemetery in South China.
