Estella F. Cox Obituary (1910 - 2011)

AUGUSTA -- Estella F. Cox, 100, of Augusta died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at Augusta Rehabilitation and Nursing Care. She was born on Nov. 16, 1910, in Palermo, the daughter of Eben and A. Ellie (Tibbetts) Foster. She graduated from Cony High School in 1929. She married Melvin Cox of Vassalboro on May 16, 1936. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary before his death at the age of 98 in 2007. Estella worked for more than 44 years at the First National Granite Bank in Augusta until her retirement in 1973. She was well known for her outgoing personality and loved working with the public. She was a very generous individual supporting many charities. Her three passions in life were cooking, entertaining friends and traveling. Besides her husband, she was also predeceased by a brother, Stanley Foster; sister Cora Garside; a half-brother Howard Glidden; and a half-sister Elsie Turner. She is survived by her two nieces, Beverly Archer of Palermo, and Nancy Dighello of Freedom, N.H., and Spring Hill, Fla. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta.
