Evan Carleton Turner Obituary (1925 - 2013)

MESQUITE, TEXAS- Evan Carleton Turner, 87, beloved husband, uncle, and friend, died January 13, 2013 in Dallas, Texas. Born April 28, 1925 in Mount Vernon, he was the second of three sons of Carleton Ellsworth and Lucy May Carson Turner and was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, David Carson Turner and James Carson Turner. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Anna Katherin Ball Turner of Mesquite and numerous nieces and nephews. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1942 and served our Country in three conflicts: World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Evan served with the Marine Scout Bombing Squadron VMSB 333 in Ewa, Hawaii where he was nicknamed, “Photo Joe”, retired from the USMC in 1969 then working for the United States Postal Service before finally retiring and settling in his childhood home in Maine, then later Mesquite. He was a member of the Vernon Valley Masonic Lodge #99 and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his native state. E.C., as he was known to family and friends in Maine and Texas, was jovial, loved his wife, family, friends, flying, food, wine and is a great example to us all. A memorial celebration of Evan’s life will be held graveside at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28th at the Bean Cemetery, Bean Road, Mt. Vernon, with Rev. Karen Munson and Rev. Desi Larson officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to Mount Vernon First Baptist Church Food Bank, 539 Pond Road, Mt. Vernon, ME 04352.
