Floyd Gilbert Parker Obituary (1931 - 2013)

NORTH MONMOUTH--Floyd Gilbert Parker, 82, of North Monmouth, went to be with Jesus Friday Sept. 6, 2013, at Central Maine Medical Center with his family at his bedside. He was born at home on Quaker Ridge in Leeds, Aug. 2, 1931, the son of Lindley Gilbert and Mildred Irene (Keene) Parker. He was a graduate of Monmouth Academy, class of 1949. Floyd proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning from military service, he worked as a central office technician for the Community Service Telephone Co. and retired in 1996 after 32 years of service. Mr. Parker enjoyed old-fashioned rug hooking, bowling, golfing, playing cards and being with his family and friends. They say life begins at 40 and for Floyd, it truly did. He gave his life to Jesus on Palm Sunday, 1972. He was the music leader at Lighthouse Baptist Church , where he also served as a deacon. He taught adult Sunday school at East Auburn Baptist Church until his health declined. Floyd's life reflected his love for Jesus. Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, of 58 years, Barbara (Gordon) Parker; his sons, Todd Lindley Parker, of North Monmouth, and Troy Ira Parker and his wife, Cheryl, of Mount Dora, Fla.; two granddaughters; four grandsons, as well as several great-grandchildren and cousins. A graveside service will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Greene on Tuesday Sept. 10, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. A memorial celebration of life will follow at 11 a.m. at the East Auburn Baptist Church, 560 Park Ave. in Auburn.
