Jerome "Jerry" Gagnon Obituary (1960 - 2017)

AUGUSTA-Jerome “Jerry” Gagnon, 57, passed away at Maine Medical Center on August 13, 2017. He was born in Augusta on June 1, 1960 the son of Joseph and Gloria (Jenness) Gagnon, and attended Augusta schools. Jerry loved racing; from racing himself at Unity raceway to attending NASCAR events at Loudon, NH for more than 20 years. He was Dale Earnhardt Sr’s #1 fan, and he had tattoos to prove it, including a well-known Dale Earnhardt partial sleeve on his right arm. He spent most nights out at his parent’s garage working on everything from cars, snowmobiles, to dune buggies. Every weekend Jerry and Laurie spent time together at the family’s camp on Togus Pond, enjoying many sunrises and sunsets. He devoted the last 28 years to caring for Laurie after her MS diagnosis; the last 18 years of which she spent in a wheel chair. Jerry would drop anything he was doing to help anybody, anytime, no matter the task. Jerry is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Gloria (Jenness) Gagnon and Aubrey Blake, who Jerry and his brothers referred to as 'Gramp', a family friend, whom they shared many fond memories with. He is survived by Wife of 37 years, Laurie Gagnon; 2 stepchildren whom he thought of as his own; Angela Haidara, and Joshua Blanche and wife, Lynn; 3 brothers, Jeffrey Gagnon and wife, Barbara; Joseph Gagnon; James Gagnon and wife; Rose; 7 grandchildren, Bridget McGrath, Colleen Coffey, Deanna Corrow, Aisha and Abdullah Haidara, Carter and Emma Blanche; 2 great grandchildren, Devin and Madelyn; along with several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held At Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home on Saturday August 19, from 10:00 – 11:00, followed by a celebration of Jerry’s life at 11:00. Following Jerry’s celebration of life, the family invites everyone to join them at the home of Josh Blanche for a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 74 Gray Road, Falmouth, ME 04105.
