Kathryn F. Wentworth Obituary (1913 - 2012)

AUGUSTA -- Kathryn F. Wentworth, 98, passed away at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care, Graybirch Drive, on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, after a brief illness. She was born on Swan Street in Augusta on June 6, 1913, the daughter of Daniel and Eliza Jane (Belden) Luce. Kathryn went to school in Readfield and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1933. She was a resident of Winthrop most of her life and, in later years, lived with her daughter in Sidney. Kathryn married Robert Wentworth and was a homemaker all of her life. Katie loved to cook, work in her flower garden, play cards and loved a good game of cribbage with her sister. Her passion was bird watching and, for the last few weeks of her life, repeatedly asked if the robins had returned. The Friday before Katie passed, a flock of more than a hundred robins landed on the lawn outside her window at Graybirch. Katie was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Robert; her twin brother, Kenneth; her sisters, Lois Hanson, Beverly Newcombe and Nellie Hindhaugh; as well as her niece and nephew, Joyce Gagnon and Gary Newcombe. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Stevens, of Sidney; her grandson, Keith Stevens and his wife, Angela, of Sidney; great-grandchildren Trent and Regan of Sidney; her ex-son-in-law, Merrill Stevens, of Sidney, who brought her fresh vegetables and her beloved baked beans; nieces Pam Taylor of Winthrop, Barbara Poirier of Eagle River, Alaska, Ruby Smith of Winthrop, and Danny and David Newcombe, both of Wayne; as well as several grand-nieces and -nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the nurses and certified nurse's aides at Graybirch for the loving care and support they gave to Katie in her final journey, as well as the hospice staff for their support and kindness. At Katie's request, there will be no public viewing. A graveside service celebrating her life will be held in the spring at Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane, Winthrop. In lieu of flowers, donations in Katie's memory may be made to the American Heart Assn. , 51 U.S. Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough 04074-7134. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
