Lawrence W. Morse Obituary (2011)

MANCHESTER -- Lawrence W. Morse, 77, of Manchester, died Sept. 5 of ALS ('Lou Gehrig's disease'). Born to Corinne and Herbert Morse, he grew up in South Hampton, N.H., exploring nature and sailing the Maine coast. He graduated from Amesbury High School in '52, Dartmouth in '56, and earned an MA from UNH, completing Ph.D coursework at Cornell and Syracuse. Having taught high school and college, Morse retired as humanities chair at Triton RHS, Newbury, Mass., in 1987 to start Laughingstock Farm and raise sheep. He enjoyed the Gardiner Farmers' Market. Larry worshipped, played the organ and made friends at Holy Trinity in Oakland and St. Augustine's in Old Orchard. He is survived by wife Susan (Johnston) and children Heather Pike and husband Harry, Pittsfield, N.H., Melissa Morse, Watertown, Mass., Julie Packard, Augusta, Dana Morse and wife Riley, Bowdoin, and Canaan Morse, Manchester; and by siblings Ogden, Priscilla and Virginia Morse. He left many beloved grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, Manchester Community Church. Luncheon afterward at the church.
