Louise Richards "Ginki" Marvin Obituary (1927 - 2015)

AUGUSTA ~ Louise Richards “Ginki” Marvin, 87, of Augusta, died Saturday January 10, 2015 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation, Glenridge Drive in Augusta with her family at her side. She was born in Augusta, October 23, 1927 the daughter of Albert and Etta (Jackson) Dostie. She was a 1945 graduate of Cony High School and attended UMA. She was married to Leonard Richards until his death in 1976 and to John Marvin until his death in 2001. Ginki worked for the Maine State Teachers Association as an executive secretary for 37 years. She was a member of Penney Memorial United Baptist Church since 1941. She served as a Deacon, on the Memorial and Nominating Committee, the Mothers and Others Club, Kitchen Committee and VIP’s. She was a member of the Kennebec Retired Teachers Association, volunteered at V.A. Togus and with the Red Cross on many blood drives at Penney. Louise enjoyed her trips across the United States and Canada. She spent many summers at her cottage at Sheepscot Lake and at her home on Little Deer Isle where relatives and friends were always welcomed and enjoyed her famous Memorial Day clambakes. She was an avid reader and collector of Maine authors. She could always be seen at her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s games and other events. Mrs. Marvin was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Elizabeth Ann Dostie and Dorothy Dostie Brann; brothers, Roland, Richard, and Donald and her granddaughter, Lisa Karczewski. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Karczewski and her husband, Scott, of Augusta; sister, Barbara Cooper, of Jefferson; grandson, Todd Karczewski great-grandchildren, Dylan Karczewski, and Taylah Karczewski; her great-great granddaughter, Kaylee Janice as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Relatives and friends may visit at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta, Wednesday January 14, 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday January 15, 2015 at Penney Memorial United Baptist Church. Spring burial will be in the Chadwick Hill Cemetery. Louise’s family would like to thank the staff at MaineGeneral Hospital, Granite Hill Estates Assisted Living, Graybirch and Glenridge and the Maine Veterans Home for the care she received.
