Mable Prescott Farrin Obituary (1927 - 2014)

AUGUSTA ~ Mable (Prescott) Farrin, 87, died peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, May 4, 2014. Mable was born in Whitefield, Maine on March 8, 1927. She was one of 13 children of Pearl and Maud (Pullen) Prescott. Mable attended Whitefield High School and graduated from Erskine Academy in 1945 as the Salutatorian of her class. Following graduation, she worked for the Maine State Highway Commission then married her husband, Harvey Farrin on June 24, 1951. Mable and her husband owned Farrin’s Moto Ski in Augusta. Mable was a member of South Parish Congregational Church, Get Together Senior Citizens, the Altrusa Club of Kennebec Valley, Fox Glen Snowmobile Club, Worromontogus Association and the Wednesday Morning Early Bowlers. She was a very giving woman as she volunteered for many years at the Augusta Food Pantry, Maine General Medical Center as well as knitting mittens for school children. She was the happiest when she was working outdoors gardening, mowing her lawn and stacking her wood for the winter. She also enjoyed sewing, canning, baking, bowling traveling, camping and spending time with her family. She was predeceased by her husband Harvey, as well as her six brothers Percy, Edmund, Charles, Elmer, Eugene, and Norman Prescott. Her four sisters Hazel Fowle, Avis Lewis, Lizabelle Heath, and Jennie Brann and also her buddy Spike who liked to play ball and walk with her to get the newspaper and mail every day. Mable was a devoted mother, grandmother (Nan) and great grandmother. She is survived by her two sons Bryon Farrin and his wife Cindy, and Todd Farrin and his wife Kathy all of Augusta. Her grandchildren Jaimee Farrin, Angela Grenier, Brandon Farrin and fianc Kelsie Colfer, Paige Farrin, Sydney Farrin, and her great granddaughter Natalie Grenier. She is also survived by her brother Pearl Prescott, Jr. of Augusta and her sister Arlene Gray of Connecticut, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to give many thanks to Rob and Katie, as well as the Maine General Hospice staff, especially Kerry, Karen and Renee for all the care they give to Mable. Family and friends may visit on Friday May 9, 2014 from 5pm until 8pm at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 10, 2014 at South Parish Congregational Church in Augusta. A private burial will be held at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on a later date.
