Malcolm E. "Mac" McHenry Obituary (1927 - 2015)

Augusta, Maine ~ Malcolm E. McHenry, 'Mac', 87 passed away peacefully at Maine Veterans Home in Augusta, Maine February 28, 2015 after a courageous struggle with Alzheimer's. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut, July 19, 1927, son of the late Nellie and Michael McHenry. Mac enlisted in the Merchant Marines at 17 and served in WWII and post war efforts provisioning Europe. He stepped back ashore to become a police officer with the Hamden Police Department retiring after 25 years with the rank of Chief of Detectives. He went on to work at Quinnipiac College as Director of Security. After Quinnipiac, Mac moved to Phoenix, AZ., then to Naples, FL, in the pursuit of warm weather and golf. Mac is survived by his daughter Maryellen McHenry of Hanover, MD; son Michael McHenry and his wife Lynne, of Hope, ME; grandchildren Ryan and Katie Rose McHenry. Mac is predeceased by his sister Marjorie Jones of Phoenix; ex-wife Phillis McHenry, mother of his children and Maureen McHenry his second wife and soul mate. Mac loved vacationing on Cape Cod with Maureen and her family and sailing in Maine aboard his son's windjammer 'Angelique' with his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Maine Alzheimer's Association, 383 U.S. Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074. A memorial service will be held this spring at a date and time to be announced.
