Marion Woods Brooks Perkins Obituary (1918 - 2013)

AUGUSTA -- Marian Woods Brooks Perkins, 94, passed away Jan. 14, 2013, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care, Glenridge Drive, Augusta. Marian was born in Bangor, but lived most of her life in Augusta. She was employed in the vital records department of the state of Maine and in 1977 was named supervisor of the Office of Vital Records and deputy state registrar. In l982, Mrs. Perkins became the first woman in Maine to be sworn in as state registrar of vital records. She retired in 1984 at age 65. Marian was also active in the Augusta Business and Professional Women's Club, serving as president in 1971 and 1972. Marian loved to travel worldwide, but many of her happiest times were at her summer cottage on Lake Maranacook in Winthrop with her many friends and her large family. She was also an avid bridge player. Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Marian Woods Brooks and J. Strothard Brooks; her husband, G. Stanley Perkins; her sister, Ruth Wood and sister Moyle Howe. She is survived by her three children, son Charles Perkins and his partner, Jeanne LaPlante, of Waterville, daughter Barbara Hutchins and husband John, of Midlothian, Va., and daughter Betty Cobb and husband Dick, of Homosassa, Fla.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A private memorial will be at a future date. Arrangements are made by Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
