Maxine Ida Parent Obituary (1922 - 2013)

AUGUSTA—Maxine Ida Parent, 91, formerly of Winthrop and Hallowell, passed away on Saturday, July 27, after a long illness. Born in Millinocket on April 19, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Elwood W. Clark, Sr. and Ida M. (Smart) Clark. A graduate of Hallowell High School, she married Joseph W. Parent, Jr., in 1942, and settled in Hallowell. Maxine and Joe both enjoyed long careers at The Daily Kennebec Journal in Augusta, where she ended her career as Business Office Manager. After retirement, Maxine and Joe spent summers at their camp on the Lower Narrows Pond in Winthrop and winters in Vero Beach, Florida. She was widowed in 1987 after 45 years of marriage. She was well cared for in her final years at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center. Maxine is survived by a sister, Jeannette Girard of Biddeford; a son, William Parent, and his wife, Sheila, of Glastonbury, Connecticut, and their children Brian, Jeffrey, and Lindsay; a daughter, Patricia Thomas, of Auburn and her children Christina, Bethany, Benjamin, and Jonathan; and a daughter, Gail Coughlan, and her husband, Peter, of Randolph and their children, Matthew, Jacob, Emily, Joseph, and Abbey; ten great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Elwood W. Clark, Jr., and sisters Arlene Zindell of Catskill, New York, and June Clark of Old Orchard Beach. Visiting hours will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Service, One Church Street, Augusta. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, followed by burial at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
