Millicent F. Bray Obituary (1930 - 2013)

CHELSEA--Millicent F. Bray of Chelsea, ME and wife of Reverend Trueman L. Bray went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 27th after a brief illness. She was in the loving presence of her family. Millicent was born in Troy, N.Y. and raised in Albany, N.Y. by her parents Charles and Catharine Feagles of Watervliet, N.Y.. After graduating from Albany High School in 1947 she attended Albany Business College. She worked for three years before going to Gordon College of Theology and Missions in Boston, MA. She attended there for two years where she met Trueman and they married on June 3, 1953. She worked while Trueman attended seminary at Gordon Theological Seminary in Wenham, MA. After he graduated they served churches in Lebanon and Bath, Maine. In 1962, with their three children they moved to Sunlight Baptist Mission in Second Mesa, Arizona to serve as missionaries to the Hopi Indians. After serving there for five years in 1967 they returned to New England to serve at the First Baptist Church of Westbrook, ME. While serving there Millicent completed her Bachelor’s Degree in 1972 and her Master’s Degree in Education in 1979 at Portland-Gorham University (now Southern Maine University). She began teaching first grade in Westbrook, which she continued when she and Trueman moved to Augusta, ME in 1981 to serve Penney Memorial United Baptist Church. They served there until 1994 when they retired from full time Christian service. In retirement she and Trueman enjoyed their trips to visit their children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed her hobbies of gardening, quilting and bird-watching. Millicent devoted her life to her Lord Jesus, her wonderful family and her church. Millicent is predeceased by her husband Reverend Trueman L. Bray and her brother Richard Feagles. She is survived by her son Timothy Bray, Ph.D. of Pepperell, MA and his wife Jennifer and their two sons Samuel William and Zachary Trueman, her daughter Holly Bray of Arlington, Virginia, and her son Nathaniel Bray of Boynton Beach, Florida and his wife Diane and their two daughters Abigail Faith and Grace Alexandra and her adopted son Phat Tran of Pittston, ME and his wife Rita and their daughter Diane Mary. Millicent loved her children and grandchildren and devoted her life to caring for them and her husband, Trueman. She taught her children and grandchildren to love the Lord and she was a model of a woman of faith, courage and integrity. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Charles Bray of Jacksonville, FL and Gray, ME and his wife Lois, her sister-in-law Florence Bray of Maynard, MA and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Penney Memorial United Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 1st.
