Paulene Waldron Knight Liscomb Obituary (1926 - 2017)

AUGUSTA ~ Paulene Waldron Knight Liscomb of Augusta, died Saturday January 21, 2017, in Augusta. She was born March 1, 1926, in Albion, ME, the eldest child of Dorothea Waldron Knight and Albert True Knight. She attended Augusta public schools, graduating from Cony High School in 1944, and earned her Registered Nurse degree from Peter Bent Brigham Hospital (now Brigham and Women’s Hospital) School of Nursing in Boston in 1947. She married Robie M. Liscomb Jr. in 1947, and they had three children: Robie M. Liscomb III, Martha Elaine Liscomb Verrill, and Ornoth David Albert Liscomb. During her long nursing career, Paulene worked at Addison-Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, MA; Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME; and the Kennebec Valley Medical Center and the urology offices of Drs. Norstrand and Vickers in Augusta. Paulene and Robie were avid travelers and square dancers, and she was an accomplished hand quilter. She also greatly enjoyed golf, swimming, bridge and the company of friends and family. She was a member of the South Parish Congregational Church, the Augusta Country Club, and the Kennebec Valley YMCA, and was a well-known volunteer and member of the Auxiliary of the Maine General Medical Center. Mrs. Liscomb was pre-deceased by her husband, Robie Liscomb, and her daughter Martha Elaine Liscomb Verrill. She is survived by her sister Elaine Knight Chase of Fayette, ME; and her sons Robie Liscomb III and his wife Kathlyn Lannon Liscomb of Victoria, BC, Canada, and Ornoth David Albert Liscomb of Pittsburgh, PA; her granddaughters Jennifer Verrill Schurman and her husband Corey of Kansas City, MO, and Nora Jiahui Liscomb of Victoria, BC; and her great-grandchildren Rhys and Gemma Schurman of Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MaineGeneral Health to benefit the Alfond Center for Health, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, Maine 04903 . There will be a gathering in her memory at Knowlton Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta, at 10:30 a.m., Saturday January 28, 2017.
