Albert Jr. Obituary (1930 - 2008)

READFIELD - Albert A. Chioffi Jr., 78, of the Winthrop Road, died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. He was born in Bayonne, N.J., on March 7, 1930, the son of Albert and Alva (Salkewicz) Chioffi. Albert graduated from St. Peter's Preparatory School in Jersey City, N.J. He worked as an engineer for many construction companies in New Jersey, New York, Delaware, North Carolina, Connecticut and Maine before retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Winthrop and the Knights of Columbus. On Fridays, he and his wife, Barbara, cooked for the Hot Meals program at the church. Albert enjoyed fishing, both fresh and salt water, and woodworking. He was an excellent handyman and loved to read, especially science fiction. Albert was predeceased by his parents and a son, Albert Chioffi III. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Chioffi of Readfield; five children, Theresa of Waterville, Susan of Durham, N.C., Marian of Monhegan Island, Juliana and her fiance', Doug, of Healdsburg, Calif., and Lucas and his wife, Jenn, also of Monhegan Island; a brother, Anthony Chioffi and his wife, Ellen, of Bridgewater, N.J.; a sister, Mary Ann O'Donnell and her husband, Dan, of Carson City, Nev.; two grandchildren, Gabriel and Margaret; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, at St. Francis Xavier Church, Winthrop, with Rev. Brian Blanchette, Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Xavier Hot Meals Program, 130 Route 133 Winthrop 04364 or the American Lung Association, 122 State St., Augusta, ME 04330.
