WINTHROP ? Audrey R. Yeaton, 81, of Winthrop Center Road, died at Winthrop Manor Longterm Care and Rehabilitation Center September 25, 2006 following a long struggle with dementia. Born January 10, 1925 in Pittsfield, N.H., she was the daughter of Lewis and Emily (Sanborn) Randall. Having moved to Augusta with her family as a young girl, Audrey attended Augusta schools, graduating from Cony High School in the 1943. Following graduation and until she married and started raising a family, she worked as a secretary at Central Maine Power Company. A trained elocutionist who prided herself for being able to memorize and deliver long recitations, she was often called upon as a young woman to entertain at various service clubs and organizations in the Augusta area. During World War II, she also volunteered as a hostess at Augusta?s Municipal Service Center where she danced and socialized with servicemen stationed in the area. Audrey married Donald Yeaton of Belgrade on June 5, 1948 and they lived in Hallowell until they moved to their Winthrop Center Road residence in 1957. She devoted herself to her family as a homemaker, doting on her husband, participated in her children?s activities by serving as a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader, and Winthrop Music Booster. She also cared for her elderly mother who lived for many years in an apartment in the Yeaton home. During that same period of time, Audrey was a member of the East Winthrop Baptist Church, taught Sunday school and was active in the Loyal Daughters. In more recent years, Audrey attended the Winthrop Center Friends Church and was active in the Winthrop Grange, serving several terms as lecturer and secretary. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, cake decorating and a variety of hand crafts. A talented seamstress, she made most of her daughters? clothes while they were growing up, many outfits for her oldest granddaughter and baby quilts for all of her grandchildren. Audrey was predeceased by her husband in 2003, her sisters Martha Smith of Centereach, N.Y. and E. Patricia Randall of Augusta, and older brother Irvin Randall who died as a toddler. She is survived by her children, Calvin Yeaton and his wife Linda of Winthrop, Dr. Howard Yeaton and his wife Christa of Sarasota Springs, N.Y., Judith Yeaton of Winthrop, and Sylvia Kjellson and her husband Carl of Swedesboro, N.J. Audrey also leaves three granddaughters, four grandsons, two great-granddaughters, two nieces, a nephew and a cousin. Visiting hours will be held Friday Sept. 29 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, 26 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 30 at 2:00pm. Internment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Belgrade.
