HALLOWELL - Barbara L. Blodgett, 86, of Hallowell died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at her home. She was born in Augusta on Oct. 17, 1922, the daughter of Everett and Vada (Foster) Gammon. Barbara graduated from Cony High School and later attended nursing school in Portland and Hanson's Barber School in Gardiner. Barbara was married to Dom Blodgett for 50 years. For 33 of those years, she worked side by side with him at Dom's Barber Shop in Hallowell. She enjoyed attending and supporting her husband in his dog racing, and together they showed geese and rabbits. She loved her farm and animals, especially her cats and dogs. She was predeceased by her husband, Dom, on Feb. 6, 2000; two brothers, Everett Gammon and Richard Gammon; and a sister, Thelma Ladd. She is survived by a sister, Bernice (Gammon) Blais, of Hallowell; a special friend, Patti Burnett, of Hallowell; also several nieces and nephews. At her request, there will be no visiting hours. A committal service will be held at noon Wednesday, Oct. 21, in the chapel at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waterville Humane Society, 100 Webb Road, Waterville, ME 04901.
