Augusta, Maine - Barbara Anne Harrington Fogg of Charles St., Augusta, died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Barbara was born in Portland on May 16, 1931, the ninth of thirteen children born to Claude and Alice (Day) Harrington. She attended Portland schools and graduated from Kents Hill Preparatory School, class of 1949. Barbara married Samuel Fogg Jr. on October 15, 1949, and they lived most of their married life in Readfield where they raised their two children. Barbara worked at the Martha Washington Inn and was the Readfield town correspondent for the Kennebec Journal for many years. She also worked at the Kents Hill Orchard for several years, and in 1993, she retired after twenty years of managing the Kents Hill School Bookstore. Barbara was a woman with many interests and contributed greatly of her time and efforts to many local organizations. She was a Distinguished Expert Marksman, and coached the Readfield Junior Rifle Club for several years while she was a member of the Readfield Ladies Limited Gun Club. She was an accomplished golfer and achieved two holes in one during her lifetime of play. She was active in the Cobbossee Colony Ladies Twilight League. She was also an avid antiques collector and had a strong interest in genealogy. She and her husband enjoyed their years of retirement in Plant City, Florida until Sam's death in 1998. In later years, Barbara organized many luncheons for former Kents Hill School day students. She organized all the papers from the Fogg Family Homestead and recently donated much of this memorabilia to the Readfield Historical Society. Barbara also served on the Board of Directors of Readfield Union Meeting House until earlier this year. She and her beloved companion, Tom Adell, enjoyed the past several winters in Florida together and established a new home for themselves in Augusta in 2004. Barbara was active in the Red Hat Society in the Lakes at Country Woods in Plant City and also participated in and enjoyed many activities at the Lakes during her winters in Florida. In addition to Tom Adell, Barbara is survived by her daughter Joanne and husband Paul Fournier of Scarborough, her son David Fogg and wife Susan of Palermo, granddaughter Jennifer Litwinowich and husband Mark Smith of Falmouth, and granddaughter Sybil and husband Drew Wilen of Portland. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren: Claudia, Camille, and Deirdre Ridge, Alyssa, Samuel, and Theodore Wilen, and Piper Smith. She also leaves behind her sisters Dorothy Moody of South Paris, Maine and Dellma Bingaman of London, Ohio, and brothers Donald and John Harrington of Bridgton, Maine, as well as several nieces and nephews. She also leaves many dear friends, both here in Maine and in Florida. Visiting will be held Saturday, November 22nd from 10-11 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. A reception will occur following the service at Masterman Union at Kents Hill. Burial will be in Readfield Corner Cemetery.
