AUGUSTA - Barbara L. Folger, 86, of Augusta, died Sunday October 25, 2009, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. She was born in Sidney August 21, 1923, the daughter of William S. and G. Irene (Fields) Folger. Barbara grew up in Sidney and attended school there. She went on to attend the Milton LaForest Williams School in Oakland. She was Telephone Operator at the State TB Sanitarium for several years after being a patient there. When it closed, she went to work for the State Department of Human Services where she remained for 35 years until her retirement in 1982. Until recently, Barbara was able to live in her family's home in Augusta. Barbara enjoyed feeding the wildlife, going to the coast with friends and in her younger years, fishing. She also loved the pets she had over the years, including 'Teddy' and 'Mindy' She was a member of the Maine State Employees Association. Miss Folger was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Madeline Dostie; her nephew, Willard Boynton, and several aunts. She is survived by her sisters, Arlene Fossett, of Augusta and Linda Carson and her husband, Richard, of Winthrop; her nieces, Bethany Lehning and her husband, Wayne, of Palermo, Joyce Doyon, of Augusta, and Jackie Gow and her companion, Bud Gates, of West Gardiner along with many grandnieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may visit at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta, Wednesday 6 to 8 p.m. with a funeral service at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at the Reynolds Hill Cemetery in Sidney.
