Barbara
Mace
Apr 6, 1946 — Feb 14, 2016
BARBARA JEAN (ALLEN) MACE Dover-Barbara Jean (Allen) Mace, 69, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on February 14, 2016 at the residence of her daughter in Greene, Maine. Although sad, it was fitting that she passed on Valentine’s Day, the day of love. She always cared for and loved those around her and always put their needs before her own. She was born in Dover on April 6, 1946, the daughter of Ward and Marjorie Allen. She resided in North Berwick, Maine for most of her childhood before attending The University of Maine Orono for studies in education. She later completed her degree at the University of New Hampshire. One of her greatest accomplishments was her 29 years teaching math at Portsmouth High School. During which time she was also a Math League Advisor and the head of the National Honor Society. After retiring she continued to touch people’s lives by volunteering to tutor students and adults. The job that gave her the most joy though was being a caretaker to her family. She was forever concerned with the well-being of those around her and for that she will be greatly missed. Her favorite pastime was watching sunrises and collecting shells while walking on the beach with her beloved husband. She loved spending time outdoors tending to her gardens, watching the birds at the feeders and just appreciating what God has created. She leaves behind her much loved husband of 46 years Arthur Mace; two daughters, Jennifer Tucker and her husband Sean of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Jeanne Mace-Davis and her husband Robert of Greene, Maine; one grandchild, Emily Tucker; one sister Judy Marsh and her husband Dean of Gainesville, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Ward “Bumpa” Allen and Marjorie “Mimi” (Boston) Allen; and her sister Kathy (Allen) Payeur. Following her wishes, there will be a private internment held in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Berwick, Maine. In lieu of a funeral, Barbara wished to have a “celebration of life” gathering for family and friends held, appropriately, in the spring among her blooming flower gardens. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, ME 04364, where memories, condolences and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of our website at www.khrfuneralhomes.com
