WAYNE - Beverly Carolyn Newcombe, 80, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2007 at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. She was born in Winthrop on March 31st, 1926, the daughter of Daniel and Eliza (Belden) Luce. Beverly attended Winthrop schools and was a long time resident of Wayne. She was employed for several years at the Carleton Woolen Mill in Winthrop and was a long standing member of the Wayne Grange, earning her 6th degree. She was also a member of the Wayne Community Church and Ladies? Aid of the Wayne Community Church. Beverly enjoyed knitting and crocheting and kept her children and grandchildren well supplied with her brightly colored socks and mittens. Mrs. Newcombe was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Newcombe, a son, Garry Newcombe, and a sister and brother, Lois Hanson and Kenneth Luce. Survivors include two sons, Danny Newcombe & companion, Susan Reynolds, and David Newcombe & companion, Joshua Day, both of Wayne; two daughters, Barbara Poray & husband, Peter, of Eagle River, AK and Ruby Smith & husband, Rick, of Camas, VA; two sisters, Katherine Wentworth of Sidney and Nellie Hindhaugh of Winthrop; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Newcombe, Jaime Newcombe, Peter Poray, Thomas Poray, Sunny Smith and Sammy Smith; and one great grandchild, Riley Poray. A memorial celebration of Beverly?s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22nd at the Wayne Community Church, with Rev. Kyung-hee Sa officiating. All are invited to attend a reception downstairs in the church immediately following the service. Burial will be held in the spring at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Wayne.
