WINSLOW - Carl David Legassey, 75, passed away quietly at his home and was finally at peace on Jan. 21, 2009. His wife and daughter, Kimberly, were there with him during his long-term care. He was born in Millinocket on March 28, 1933, to Ludger and Phyllis (Hall) Legassey. Carl graduated from Cony High School in 1950 and, very soon after, enlisted in the Navy. He was attached to the Marines, serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars, and was stationed at many places worldwide, retiring as chief petty officer after 25 years of service to his country. Carl married Marilyn Heald on June 10, 1953, at Green Street United Methodist Church in Augusta. They raised their family, for the most part, in Pensacola, Fla. Carl was recently the president of the Meadowview Condominium Association, where he and his wife had lived for the past eight years. Our father, husband, Pop-Pop and best friend will be greatly missed by his wife, Marilyn, of Winslow; his three daughters, Jennifer Muehle, of Portland, Kimberly Crandall and her partner, Rick Ramsdell, of Waterville, and Vanessa Bourque and her partner, Doug Lunsford, of Flomaton, Ala.; his son, Carl David Legassey II and his wife, Tammi, of Pensacola, Fla.; along with 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Carl's family would like to thank everyone at HealthReach Hospice for all of the care and comfort they gave Carl during his last months of life, especially Michelle Mercier, registered nurse, who was of great comfort, support and care to Carl and his entire family during this time, and also Laurie, certified nursing assistant, who always made Carl feel good throughout his illness. A private family committal service with full military honors will take place at a later date at the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
