LITCHFIELD - Carol W. Bailey, 77, of Litchfield passed away at her home Monday, March 8, 2010, surrounded by her family and friends. Carol taught in the Methuen, Mass., school system for 35 years. She coached championship teams in three sports and was inducted into the Methuen Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. Prior to her teaching career, Carol served five years in the Navy as a lieutenant for the Bureau of Naval Weapons in Washington, D.C. In 1991, Carol retired to Litchfield and became very active in the community. She served on the Conservation Commission and Land Use Committee. Carol also played a significant role in the creation of the Litchfield Senior Center. She was an original member of the Seniors Advisory Committee and was appointed as director of the center in 2006, serving in this capacity until her death. Carol was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Rose (Bernard) Bailey, formerly of Methuen. She is survived by her life partner of 27 years, Barbara W. Clements; and dear friend Sharon Cloutier. A celebration of Carol's life will take place on Saturday, March 13, at Litchfield Senior Center, beginning at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol's memory may be made to the Litchfield Senior Center, c/o Pat Soboleski, Treasurer, 2400 Hallowell-Litchfield Road, Litchfield, ME 04350.
