Chad Garwood Obituary (1985 - 2005)

WINTHROP - Chad S. Garwood, 20, of Winthrop, died in Portland, Saturday, June 11, 2005. He was born in Blue Hill, June 3, 1985, the son of Steven Garwood and Michele (Blair) Garwood. He moved to Augusta soon after his birth and then to Winthrop in 1986. Chad was a 2003 graduate of Winthrop High School, where he was a truly gifted athlete, excelling in both football and basketball. He earned the nickname 'Chaddy Waddy' from his coaches. He also earned many awards in both sports, including the honor of playing in the annual Shrine Football Game. He continued his football career at Colby College. Chad studied economics at both Colby College and the University of Southern Maine, where he would have been a junior in the fall. He was a wonderful son, a likable young man and never made an enemy. He had an amazing spirit and soul and was always thoughtful of others. Chad enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and riding his motorcycle. He is survived by his parents, Steven Garwood of Winthrop and Michele Garwood of Augusta; his sister, Amanda; his paternal grandparents, Don and Barbara Watkins, of Sullivan; his maternal grandparents, Willis and Narcissa Blair, of Kamuela, Hawaii; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Relatives and friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m Wednesday at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Church, Winthrop. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Winthrop.
