AUGUSTA - Charlotte M. Hallowell, 83, of Augusta died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care, Glenridge Drive, Augusta. She was born in China on Jan. 23, 1922, the daughter of Charles and Lena (Smart) Lowe. Charlotte attended school in Vassalboro and was a graduate of Erskine Academy. She was married to the late Harold Hyde and later to Carroll Hallowell. She and Carroll operated a taxi business in Hallowell for 28 years. She then went to work for the state for 10 years until her retirement. Charlotte was predeceased by her husband Carroll in 1987. She is survived by a stepson, Richard Hallowell and his wife, Eiko, of Santee, Calif.; a brother, Charles Lowe of South China; a stepgrandson Michael Hallowell of Santee, Calif.; a nephew, Jeffrey Hall of South China; and two nieces, Cheryl Whitten of Palmyra and Marsha Hall of South China. Relatives and friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Hope Cemetery, Augusta, with the Rev. Eric Moore of Penney Memorial United Baptist Church officiating.
