MOUNT VERNON - Clayton Harding Somers, 82, died Sunday, July 23rd, 2006 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. He was born in Limestone on September 12th, 1923, the son of the late Winslow and Doris (Harmon) Somers. Clayton attended Caribou schools and married Barbara Jones in Mount Vernon on June 23rd, 1943. He owned and operated Clayton's Used Cars in Mount Vernon and later was employed as a bus driver and custodian for Mount Vernon schools. More recently, he spent his last few years working for the Mount Vernon Transfer Station. Clayton was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved going to his camp on the stream. He was predeceased by his brother, Donald Somers. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Somers, of Mount Vernon; his two daughters, Marjorie Cook and her husband, Herb, of Strong and Nancy LaRue and her husband, Ron, of Mount Vernon; one brother, Edwin Somers and his wife, Diana, of Readfield; his granddaughter and three grandsons, Lisa Goucher and her husband, Dan, of Vienna, Clayton Hall of Mount Vernon, Darrell Hall and his wife, Carol, of Vienna, and Frank Hall III and his fiance, Sherry, of Mount Vernon; ten great grandchildren, Julie, Megan, Ashley, Aaron, Caleb, Carl, Andrew, Abby, Peter and Nasasha; along with four nieces and one nephew. A private family graveside service will be held at Bean Cemetery in Mount Vernon. In celebration of Clayton's life, there will be a gathering of family and friends from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 30th at the Community Center in Mount Vernon. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Clayton's memory may be made to Mount Vernon Rescue Company, 8 Belgrade Road, Mt. Vernon, ME 04352. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
