Obituary

MOUNT VERNON - Daphina Childs, longtime resident of Mount Vernon, passed away at her home Thursday, May 12, 2005. She was born March 22, 1913, in The Forks, the daughter of Albert Clark and his wife, Phoebe. Her first husband, Forest Boiley, and second husband, Lawrence Childs, predeceased her. She is survived by Geraldine Boiley Olynick and husband Steve, Beatrice Boiley Hapeman and husband Stan, Emily Boiley Cole and husband Albert, and Eva Boiley McCarthy; 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Childs was known as 'the mitten lady' in Mount Vernon, having knitted many thousands of mittens for children all over the United States. She will be greatly missed by family and many friends. Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Vienna Village Cemetery. Those caring to do so may make donations in her memory to Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, 75 Allen St., P.O. Box 797, Wilton 04294. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
