WINTHROP - Dolores E. Pelton, 60, of 308 Route 133, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at Central Maine Medical Center. She was born in Augusta on Dec. 23, 1946, the daughter of Normand and Claire (Dostie) Rheaume. Del graduated from Winthrop High School and the University of Maine, Farmington and Augusta campuses. She married Frederick Pelton in 1967. Del worked for 12 years at Bank of Maine and for the last 27 years for the state of Maine as a principal examiner for the Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection, heading up the exam function of that agency. Del truly enjoyed her diverse and interesting co-workers and spoke highly of each one of them. She was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, St. Michael Parish, in Winthrop. She was an avid reader and enjoyed classical music. A lifelong Democrat, pacifist and vegetarian, Del had a great love for animals and the environment and was a member of several such organizations. Del immensely enjoyed being with her grandchildren, who were the loves of her life. She also spent many happy hours with her husband, Fred, on their old car cruises; in shopping and lunch with her sister, Kathy, and her daughters, Debby and Diana; and in being with her very dear friends, Ardis Small and Cindy Armstrong. Throughout her life, Del lived with many animal companions, the last being her cat, Jake, and her dog, Tray. Del was predeceased by her father, Normand; and her nephew, Matthew Rodrigue. She is survived by her mother, Claire, of Winthrop; by Fred, her devoted husband of 40 years; by her two daughters, Deborah Nichols and her husband, Josh, and Diana Pelton, both of Winthrop; her grandchildren, Zachary, Caleb and Haley Nichols, all of Winthrop; her sisters, Patricia Rheaume and her husband, Mike Robertson, and her son, Steve Rodrigue, Kathleen Dunn and her husband, Wallace, and their children, Douglas Dunn and his wife, Angelique (Hasenfus), and their children, Noah and Isabella, and Darcy Baird and her husband, Jason, and their sons, Ryan, Logan and Colton, all of Winthrop; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial Mass celebrating Del's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Winthrop, with the Rev. Brian Blanchette, celebrant. A reception will immediately follow, next door to the church, at the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Del's memory may be made to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta, ME 04330.
