WINTHROP ? Donald Wayne Stresser, 68, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at the YMCA in Manchester. He was born in Portland, Ore., June 23, 1934, the only child of Leonard Cornelius Stresser and Cleo Beatrice Stresser. He attended Franklin High School in Portland, Ore., and graduated in 1952. He then attended Oregon State College (now Oregon State University) and obtained his bachelor of science degree in general science in 1956. He served in the Army from 1957 to 1959. He then worked as an industrial engineer for Montgomery Ward in Portland, Ore. While in Portland, he met his future wife, Lillian Suelter. Lillian and Donald married in 1961 in Portland. Sons Stephen and David were born in 1962 and 1964. Donald and Lillian moved to Seattle, Wash., where he began work as an estimator at the Boeing Co. in Seattle. In 1970, Donald began working for the Food and Drug Administration, also in Seattle. In 1978, he accepted a transfer with the FDA and moved to Winthrop. At the time, it was reportedly the longest move in FDA history. While with the FDA, he worked in several New England states. Donald was remembered as a dedicated, trustworthy and amiable colleague. In his retirement years, Don kept a very busy schedule and served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and as a volunteer mediator at the Maine Attorney General's Office and pursued several new hobbies, including sketching and brick collecting. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of Augusta. Throughout his years, he enjoyed a very active life. He enjoyed fishing, tennis, skiing, racquetball, golf, biking and travel. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially trying to keep up with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Stresser of Winthrop; and two sons, Stephen Leonard Stresser and wife Linda and their three children, Brian, Michaela and Alexandra, of Gorham, and David Michael Stresser and wife Beth of Charlestown, Mass. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Route 17, Augusta, with the Rev. Marion Marks officiating.
