AUGUSTA - Dorothy Beckwith Linton-Fraser, 97, died Feb. 20, 2004, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Glenridge in Augusta. She was born in Gardiner on Nov. 4, 1906, the daughter of John S. and Martha J. (Ross) Beckwith. Growing up in Gardiner, she started singing in churches as a little girl and became a choir director, which she continued for 40 years. In 1929 she married Wilfred J. Linton, and they raised two daughters. She worked in the old Gardiner Shoe factory and later worked for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles until her retirement. She lived in Florida for several years with her daughter, Lorrie, before moving back to Maine to live with her daughter, Hazel. Just a year ago, Dorothy moved into Glenridge. Dorothy will be remembered for her sweet spirit, her loving smile, her beautiful voice and her music. She also liked to knit and crochet. She will be sadly missed by her family and those who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Linton, in 1961; her second husband, Lovett Fraser, in 1974; a brother, Earl Beckwith, in 1967; and a sister, Doris Pye, in 1976. She is survived by her daughters, Hazel L. Davis of Augusta and Avis (Lorrie) Graham and her husband, Thomas, of Florida; her grandchildren, Dori Davis Prescott and her husband, Glenn, of Rowley, Mass., Janet Davis Berger and her husband, Bruce, of Augusta, David J. Reynolds and his wife, Lisa, of Augusta, and Steven Reynolds of Florida, now serving in Kuwait; great-grandchildren Jamie, Abbie and Devon Prescott of Rawley, Mass., and Erin and Brian Berger, Dylan Karczewski and Taylah Reynolds, all of Augusta; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting will be held 1:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, where a funeral service will be held at 2:30, following the visitation.
