AUGUSTA - Edith M. Allard, 95, of Middle Road, died Monday, May 3, 2004, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care, Glenridge Drive, Augusta. She was born in Augusta on March 31, 1909, the daughter of Benjamin H. and Minnie M. (Nottage) Tracy. Edith attended local schools and had worked at R.P. Hazzard Shoe for six years. For more than 16 years, she had done domestic housework for many area residents. She enjoyed reading and gardening. Edith also was a member of the Augusta Church of the Nazarene. She was predeceased by her first husband, Harry Hughes Sr., in 1970; her second husband, Robert Allard, in 1987; a son, Harry Hughes Jr., in 1996; a sister, Bertha Libby; and a niece, Sylvia Dawbin. She is survived by a son, Charles Gow Jr. and his wife, Donna, of North Augusta; a niece, Maxine Knight and a nephew, Almon Tilley Jr., both of Augusta; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Visiting will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Augusta Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Norman Shaw, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Coombs Mills Cemetery, Augusta.
