Obituary

MANCHESTER - Edith M. Sawyer, 86, of the Benson Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, at her home. She was born in Winthrop on June 20, 1923, the daughter of Charles and Effie (Buzzell) Adams. She attended Winthrop schools and had worked in the wire mills of upstate New York and later for Health Tex in Gardiner. She enjoyed fishing and teaching her grandchildren how to fish at their camp on Cobbossee stream. The family wishes to thank the HealthReach Hospice staff and the PSS girls for the care and compassion given to Edith over the last four years. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip Sawyer, in 2006. She is survived by two sons, Ronald Sawyer and his wife, Jean, of Alabama, and Tom Sawyer and his wife, Annette, of Manchester; a brother, Donald Adams of West Gardiner; 10 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson and many nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
