AUGUSTA - Edward A. Cullen, 71, of Augusta died on Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. He was born in Thomaston on Jan. 1, 1934, the son of Arthur and Eleanor (Morse) Cullen. He grew up in the Thomaston area and Portland, eventually graduating from Thomaston High School. He married June Stanley shortly after high school, and he worked at Wallace and Sons Boat Yard. He went on to work as a salesman for Endicott Johnson and then Royce Shoes in Rockland, Belfast and Augusta. He worked for W.T. Grant's department store from 1966 to 1976, when the store closed. He then went to work as a manager at Taylor's Trustworthy Hardware until he retired in 1998. Edward was a charter member of the Belfast Curling Club, and he enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. Mr. Cullen was predeceased by his wife, June, in 1999; his son Teddy; and his grandson, Jonathan Irish. He is survived by two sons, Brett Cullen and his wife, Andrea, of Belgrade, and Patrick Cullen and his wife, Pam, of Augusta; a daughter, Julie Irish and her husband, Paul, of West Gardiner; two brothers, Fred Cullen and his wife, Anita, of Rockland, and Tom Cullen of Brewer; four sisters, Vada Soucy and her husband, Terry, of Hampton, Va., Bonnie Fago and her husband, Bob, of Hampton, Mary Early and her husband, Ron, of Hampton, and Vera Hunt and her husband, Arthur, of Nashua, N.H.; three grandchildren, Jessica Irish, Stephanie Cullen and Jennifer Cullen; three great-grandchildren, Morgan Mansir, Melanie Mansir and Geoffrey Boyd; and a special friend, Rachel Johnson. Relatives and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A graveside service and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Ridge Cemetery, Martinsville.
