Edward III Obituary (1934 - 2010)

AUGUSTA - Edward J. Castle III, 75, of Cony Road died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at the Maine Veterans' Home. He was born in Madison on Aug. 15, 1934, the son of Edward and Lucille (Stinchfield) Castle. Edward graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1952. He served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1976. He married Alice Leadman on May 13, 1955, at Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyo. After his military career, he worked at NorthCenter Foods for another 20 years until his retirement. Edward was an outgoing, social person who enjoyed the company of others. He also liked watching NASCAR and baseball. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice Castle, in 1996. He is survived his five children, Deborah McComas, of Huntington, W.Va., John P. Castle, of Augusta, Eric T. Castle, of Maine, Courtney Davis and her husband, Larry, of Norfolk, Va., and Cameron Wilcox and her husband, John, of Belgrade; a sister, Jean Holmes and her husband, Hugh, of Winthrop; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a niece, nephew and cousins. Committal services with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, in the chapel at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Maine Veterans' Home for all the wonderful care and friendship they gave to Edward over the last few years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Activities Fund at the Maine Veterans Home, 310 Cony Road, Augusta.
