Obituary

AUGUSTA - Edward 'Eddie' Kubicki, 88, of Augusta died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta. He was born in Rossiter, Pa., on June 4, 1921, the son of Wilhelm and Katherine (Burdzel) Kubicki. He attended school in New York and Augusta. He served in the Marines and was a decorated World War II veteran. After the service, he worked for Central Maine Power Co. He began his career as a lineman for CMP in 1945 and retired in 1983. Eddie's biggest joy in life was his family. He looked forward to family gatherings and spending time with his grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Often his kind spirit and compassion was felt by all, as he shared advice on raising a family and being a loving grandparent. One of his greatest passions was cooking and sharing his tasty creations with cherished ones. Frequently, Eddie would have a huge smile on his face as he worked in his vegetable garden. He would often pride himself on the abundance of his crop and share the 'extras' with those in need. As well as being a loved family man, he loved the outdoors, especially 'camp.' He would often spend the entire summer at his camp on Moosehead Lake. One of his favorite activities was to jump in the cold waters of Moosehead Lake with his family close by. Eddie was also very active in and a member of St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church, Augusta, where he was a cook for the men's club as well. Also, he dedicated many hours to helping his granddaughter, Kathy, run the Muddy Moose Caf? for special-needs students. Eddie was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Mitchell; his sister, Bertha; and granddaughter, Rebecca White. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn (Jones) Kubicki; two sisters, Helen Silva and her husband, Eddie, and Adella Paquin; his daughters, Shirlie Fritz, of Augusta, Joyce Verhille and her husband, James, of Sebring, Fla., and Patricia Doughty and her husband, Richard, of Levant; and his son, Peter Kubicki, of Augusta. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express our sincerest gratitude to the staff of the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta for their kindness and support while he was in their care. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Augusta, at a later date and time to be announced. Burial and committal services will be held in the spring at Resthaven Cemetery, Route 32, Windsor. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Eddie's memory may be made to F.A.C.T.S.
