BRUNSWICK - Elaine Mildred Barrett, 70, of Lincoln Street, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at Amenity Manor Nursing Home in Topsham. She was born in Hallowell, Aug. 2, 1933, a daughter of Harry F. and Mildred Bradbury Barrett. She lived in Hallowell, Coopers Mills, Gardiner, Pineland Center in Pownal, Durham and Freeport; but spoke most fondly of the last 25 years of her life as a resident of Brunswick. She received support services from Independence Association in Brunswick for more than 30 years through the STARS Workshop, Independent Living and Employment Services Programs. She proudly worked as a dining aide at Bowdoin College's Wentworth Hall, where she worked since November 1989. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and collecting photographs of them; trips to Disney World; adding to her collection of holiday pins; eating and socializing with friends at Grand City, and standing on Maine Street waving to people she knew as they passed by. Survivors include a brother, Richard Barrett; a sister-in-law, Irene of Hallowell; two sisters, Charlotte Ballard of Plant City, Fla., and Jane Freeman of Gulfport, Fla., and her longtime friend and roommate, Rita Langlois, with whom she lived for 15 years. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick, with the Rev. Ronald McLaughlin officiating. Interment will be in Hallowell Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Independence Association, 87 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011.
