AUGUSTA ? Eleanor Brown Allen, 90, formerly of Readfield, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center, Glenridge Drive, Augusta following a long illness. She was born in Brookline, Mass., on Dec. 3, 1912, the daughter of Sara and William Brown. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, William Allen; her sisters, Madeline, Lillian and Ruth; and a brother, George. She is survived by three sons, Thomas Allen of Augusta, Richard Allen of Chattanooga, Tenn., and George Colburn of California; two sisters, Sally and Marjorie; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, with a short service to follow at 7 p.m. There will also be a gathering of family and friends 9-10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Eastern Avenue, Augusta, followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Goetting officiating. Burial will be in Readfield Corner Cemetery, Readfield.
