Obituary

CUMBERLAND FORESIDE - Emma Laurene Fuller Vinette, 92, of 3 Spruce Lane, Cumberland Foreside, and Belgrade Lakes, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006. She was known as 'Gowie' by her grandchildren and 'Larry' to family members. She was born Sept. 14, 1913, at her home in Suffield, Conn., to Elsie Edson Holloway and Laurence Ives Fuller. She was also raised by her stepfather, Joseph Gowell. She graduated from Fairport (N.Y.) High School in 1930 and earned her bachelor of science degree in business in 1934 from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Formerly a resident of White Plains, N.Y., and Greenwich, Conn., she and her husband moved to Cumberland Foreside in 1985. She spent summers for 50 years at her beloved summer camp on Great Pond in the Belgrade Lakes area, the real 'Golden Pond,' complete with quaint mailboat deliveries. Laurene was an avid reader and enjoyed swapping books with family and friends. She was also an amateur cartographer and could always tell you the distance between points and exactly how to get there. She thoroughly enjoyed annual visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at her camp during the summer. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Victor E. Vinette of Syracuse, N.Y.; and her sister, Elizabeth Carter. She is survived by her children, Judy French and partner Ingrid Parkin of Exeter, N.H., Stephen Vinette of Belgrade, and Dr. Barbara Gannon and husband Joe Gannon of Essex Junction, Vt.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Claudine Ackroyd of Hampton Falls, N.H., and Patricia Eaton of Delray Beach, Fla. There will be no formal service. Laurene's ashes will be placed next to her husband at Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Belgrade Regional Health Center, 4 Clements Way, Belgrade, ME 04917. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1 Church St., Augusta.
