AUGUSTA ? Evelyn B. Frye, 80, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 10, 2003. After a long illness, Evelyn died at MaineGeneral Medical Center, CCU, Augusta. She was born in Scranton, Pa., on March 30, 1923, the daughter of Harry J. and Lucille (Lindsey) Boote. She was a graduate of West Pittston (Pa.) High School, class of 1940, and Scranton Lackawanna Business College. Following graduation, she was employed by Sears in Scranton for a few months before accepting a position in Washington, D.C., for Rural Electrification Administration and the Office of Price Administration. On Jan. 10, 1945, she married Edwin S. Frye of Harrington, at the First Methodist Church, West Pittston. She worked for 26 years for the Augusta Savings Bank (First Consumers Savings Bank) and five years for the American Baptist Churches of Maine. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Hallowell. Over the years, she had been active in the Sunday school as a teacher and superintendent. She was also a member of the choir and led a youth group called the Jet Cadets. She was predeceased by her parents; and a brother, Glenn C. Boote, and his wife, Marjorie, of Swiftwater, Pa. Survivors include her husband of more than 58 years, Edwin S. Frye Sr. of Augusta; three daughters and one son, Linda Morgan and her husband, Richard, of Augusta, Caroline McCormack and her husband, Timothy, of Gorham, Elizabeth (Libby) Frye of Wiscasset and Edwin S. Frye Jr. of Augusta. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The grandchildren are Kelley Wathen, Augusta; Julie Ferry, Hooksett, N.H.; Tracey Frye, Manchester, N.H.; Lindsay Frye, Augusta; Kacey Parquette, Scarborough; Mark Parquette, East Kingston, N.H.; Aaron McCormack, Portland; and Jason McCormack, stationed with the Air Force at Brooks Field, San Antonio, Texas. The eight great-grandchildren are Bradley, Jillian and Anna Katherine Ferry, Joseph and Erin Wathen, and Gabriela, Gwyneth and Isabel McCormack. She is also survived by a brother, Roland and his wife, Helen, of Prairie Mission, Kan.; a niece and nephew and several cousins. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 13, at the First Baptist Church of Hallowell, with the Revs. Peter Inchcombe and James Waugh officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Harrington, at a later date.
