CHELSEA - Everett E. Sidelinger Jr., 80, of Chelsea died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He was born in Chelsea on Sept. 2, 1923, the son of Everett and Ella (Babb) Sidelinger. He married Christine Hannan on Sept. 20, 1952, in Deer Isle. The couple resided in Chelsea and had four children. Everett worked as a nursing assistant at the U.S. Veterans Administration Center and Hospital at Togus for almost 38 years. He also held other positions during his 'retirement' from the U.S. Veterans Administration. He was a bus driver for Chelsea School for 11 years; he was assistant fire chief with the Chelsea Fire Department and a member for over 30 years; and he was on the Chelsea Board of Selectmen and the Chelsea Planning Board. He was an active member of Chelsea Grange 215 and the Chelsea Senior Citizen Club. He attended the Bunker Hill Church in Jefferson. Everett also served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 205, Augusta. Everett was predeceased by his son, Everett E. Sidelinger III; his parents; his sisters, Justine Snowden and Leatrice Brown; and a brother, Gary Sidelinger. Survivors include his wife, Christine, of Chelsea; his three daughters, Tamay Washburn of Augusta, Krystal Holden of Rochester, N.Y., and Valerie Sidelinger of Chelsea; his grandchildren, Jeromy, Kayla, Ryan and Eric; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta, where a funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in the spring at Resthaven Cemetery, Windsor.
