LITCHFIELD - F. Wesley Ellis, 82, a resident of Hardscrabble Road, died early Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston following a short illness. He was born in New Bedford, Mass., on March 16, 1927, the son of Peter and Florence R. (Bridges) Ricker. He was educated in the schools of New Bedford and received his general educational development certificate in 1969 from the Auburn Maine Adult Education Program. On Sept. 14, 1958, he married the former Marjorie L. Snyder in Sabattus. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. Wesley served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. Mr. Ellis was employed by various shoe shops in Massachusetts and Maine over the course of many years. He later worked for the Augusta Public Works department as a night watchman and equipment maintenance man. He was most recently employed for nine years at the Augusta Wal-Mart as a greeter, retiring in November of 2008. Wesley had several interests, not the least of which was playing the keyboard or organ. He enjoyed playing for family, friends and visiting area nursing homes, playing for the residents to brighten their day. He also enjoyed photography, four wheeling and boat rides on local lakes, but his most important interest was his family members. His favorite times were those spent with his wife, daughters and extended family at gatherings. He was a member of the Morning Star Lodge No. 41 A.F.& A.M. of Litchfield. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, of Litchfield; his four daughters, Ms. Deborah J. Brackett and her companion, John Kinney, of Litchfield, Mrs. Rebecca L. Robertson and her husband, Jeffery, of Livermore Falls, Mrs. Cindy J. Gauthier and her husband, Rick, and Mrs. Glenda J. Loon and her husband, David, all of North Monmouth; 10 grandchildren, Nicholas, Lisa, Christopher, Tammy, Crystal, Seth, Peter, Tiffany, Nichole and Brent and 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Donna Delaney, in July of 2009. A celebration of Wesley's life will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct.10, at Roberts Funeral Home 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
