AUGUSTA---Ferne L. Woodruff, 93, died Sunday, October 12, 2003, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation, Glenridge Drive, in Augusta, after a brief illness. She was born in Kingman, Maine on October 12, 1910, the daughter of Daniel and Mary (Sutter) Linton. Her family later moved to Gardiner, where Ferne attended school. She also met her husband, Harold Woodruff, in Gardiner, and they were married October 3, 1936. Ferne was active in helping her husband with his business, Woodruff?s Garage in Augusta, and also cared for children in her home. Ferne?s main job was being a homemaker. Children and animals were her first loves, and there was always a dog or a cat to be loved at Ferne?s house. In 1993, Ferne became a resident of Hillside Terrace in Hallowell and lived there for eight years. Two years ago, she moved to MaineGeneral Rehabilitation, Glenridge Drive. Even in difficult times, her faith in God Was a constant source of strength and ?Fern-e doodle? had a ready wit and sense of humor that will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her. She managed to bring a smile to many a face with one of her comments or stories. Ferne was predeceased by her husband, Harold, July 23, 1990. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Hoxie and her husband, Donald, of Augusta; two grandchildren, Greg Hoxie and his wife, Brenda, of Rhode Island, and Melanie Young and her husband, David, of Hallowell; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
