Winthrop - Florinda Marie Williams, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed from this life January 1, 2007, following a courageous and lengthy battle with a rare blood disease. Complications spread, eventually taking her life as family members and friends comforted her. Florinda ?Flo? was born on June 17, 1938, in St. John Maine, the daughter of Henry and Florine St. John. She spent her early childhood there and then the family moved to Portland. It was there she met her husband, Ron, and relocated to Winthrop, where they were residents for over 40 years. Flo touched everyone that ever had the privilege of knowing her. She was a woman of great kindness, love and integrity. She would always lend an ear and share her love and caring feelings. Flo was a humble woman of generous spirit offering genuine kind acts that lifted the burdens of others. She never wanted the spotlight on herself and would discreetly go without things in order to care for others. ?She and my mother were best friends. I hope they are drinking tea together right now,? Lisa Adams said. Cindy Spelling added, ?It was truly a privilege knowing her.' Flo was a quiet woman of simple pleasures, family said. Her favorite pastime was sitting in the sun reading a Stephen King book while grandchildren played and surrounded her. She loved doing crafts with the grandchildren and her heart was full of joy when she got to see their reactions. Her favorite activity was candlepin bowling, where she strived to maintain an 80 average in the leagues. She was most fulfilled when the family would gather to enjoy a day of food and laughter together. Her wonderful cooking will be missed but Flo?s dishes will be forever carried on by her children. Flo was known for being such a hard-working woman. She balanced working and caring for her three boys. Flo worked most of her career as a waitress at the Branding Iron, ?originally known as the Steer House? for more than 28 years. She knew all the customers and their special requests. ?Flo?s customers were her good friends,? Cindy Richardson said. Towards the end of her career she had the opportunity to work at Mr. Market where she enjoyed continuing to stay in touch with people in the community. The grandchildren have very special memories of their grandmother Flo, ?Mimi? as they called her. ?We liked it when Mimi used to chase after us and tickle us and we giggled,? said the grandchildren. What mattered most to Flo was her family, which includes her husband of 43 years, Ronald E. Williams. In addition to her husband, Ron, Flo is survived by her son, Jim, his wife, Angela and their two children, Jessica and Travis; her son, Ronald Jr., his wife, Patricia and their four-legged angels; and her son, Thomas, his wife, Amy and their four children, Tommy Jr., Zacharey, Kaitlynn and Britney; and by Flo?s sister Barbara Greenwald and family. At her request there will be no services. A celebration of her life will be held for family and friends. She was dearly loved, and will be missed. We love you, Mom; you will forever remain close in our hearts. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
